<p align="center" class="western" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;"><span style="text-align: left;">About 5 years ago, a group of Loron men and women from a small
community just a few miles from our home village in Ivory Coast
expressed an interest in learning how to read and write in their own
language.</span></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjOb8j5ehkKUfV1nGP0lo5Is4m-QCYwdeRIqDdrC9XDoXCuu2EoT1gYgPQr88uuJug-U0ZOO9a8Dzm77BnxPGYwB4059-Tq63q27_52CTDE_5RSZJnpDrkrw3Ykt_ClQOip3yEK7SD_-tQ4CDOb4yYJvJzOZtOwYqfdcUVs91lyUgEpzl25Ql-Ys8klzg=s2643" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1764" data-original-width="2643" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjOb8j5ehkKUfV1nGP0lo5Is4m-QCYwdeRIqDdrC9XDoXCuu2EoT1gYgPQr88uuJug-U0ZOO9a8Dzm77BnxPGYwB4059-Tq63q27_52CTDE_5RSZJnpDrkrw3Ykt_ClQOip3yEK7SD_-tQ4CDOb4yYJvJzOZtOwYqfdcUVs91lyUgEpzl25Ql-Ys8klzg=w400-h268" width="400" /></a></div><p align="left" class="western" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">Marina arranged to begin teaching literacy to the group, but, after
just a couple of weeks, some village leaders raised an objection to
the classes and permission to use a little village classroom was
withdrawn. Apparently, some of the elders were concerned that those
who were learning to read might become Christians.
</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjrVaJge07Jq80rXtN1oM6aVdXhpqlIpGzLb8vnzFIR4PpCljU5aZP3JGJKODNNJQxQHNyWrHmGU9g-U6ValZhRm5KMIpcwDdQifP_YVJeTcn7S7UZIElNdxY8vpYR9C_E8Qeup4bEO8Z1hzGu8UOz29I_qbsD7SQTbSlqWYRx9GgJc2kj9-f9NEupgmw=s4419" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2946" data-original-width="4419" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjrVaJge07Jq80rXtN1oM6aVdXhpqlIpGzLb8vnzFIR4PpCljU5aZP3JGJKODNNJQxQHNyWrHmGU9g-U6ValZhRm5KMIpcwDdQifP_YVJeTcn7S7UZIElNdxY8vpYR9C_E8Qeup4bEO8Z1hzGu8UOz29I_qbsD7SQTbSlqWYRx9GgJc2kj9-f9NEupgmw=w400-h266" width="400" /></a></div><p align="left" class="western" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">Marina could no longer teach there, but, in spite of the
opposition, literacy classes continued elsewhere, and some in the
community have now learned how to read and write.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhNH4khtvh5GTgxKphCD5KFLl3x2NhJp6CNbEHsIawmlJu0rz3nlwjo00AbIHeV67JY7X_CidH-weF_P8kP8yPlMCDKWR9zkp0_nMVAnsHhipRZUnpLWx42PN_ZiJm2LunfZxPFAf8hWzmZuDDFg291xCPfvZuEkZtxeUSZpTrn2fjPYwraNrkMRONl5A=s3723" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2497" data-original-width="3723" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhNH4khtvh5GTgxKphCD5KFLl3x2NhJp6CNbEHsIawmlJu0rz3nlwjo00AbIHeV67JY7X_CidH-weF_P8kP8yPlMCDKWR9zkp0_nMVAnsHhipRZUnpLWx42PN_ZiJm2LunfZxPFAf8hWzmZuDDFg291xCPfvZuEkZtxeUSZpTrn2fjPYwraNrkMRONl5A=w400-h269" width="400" /></a></div><p align="left" class="western" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">Resistance to literacy and Bible teaching has been quite common over
the years among those who resent the message of the gospel because they fear it may lead to a loss of power and control that they enjoy over the
people. </p><p align="left" class="western" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">However, in numerous locations, the Lord has worked in
people’s hearts and changed them, or has removed them from the
situation altogether, and the work of the gospel continues to
progress among the Loron people.</p><p align="left" class="western" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">And so it is in this particular village. In His providence, the Lord
has reopened the door, and now Bible teaching is taking place in the
village, with around twenty young people and adults regularly
listening to foundational Bible teaching from members of the Loron
Bible teaching team.</p>
<p align="left" class="western" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">Please pray that the Lord would work mightily though the church
elders and other Bible teachers as they bring the gospel in this new
Loron village, and that many more Loron people will put their trust
in the Lord Jesus Christ, alone, for salvation.</p>

We’re scheduled to leave Northern Ireland on Friday morning (Nov 19).</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px;">We are currently working our way through a maze of travel forms, Covid tests, declarations and a myriad of other arrangements as we comply with the regulations of the four different countries in which we will be travelling.</p><h2 style="font-size: 25.008px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px;"><span style="color: #f60625;">Red Zone</span></h2><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Due to ongoing terrorist attacks in the region in which our village is located we will be unable to visit there at this time. So, we have invited a group of Loron church leaders to meet us in Ivory Coast’s economic capital, Abidjan, for fellowship, Bible teaching (with a focus on 2 Timothy) and prayer. The northern region would appear to be off-limits for us for the foreseeable future, so we need to improve our lines of communication through technology with the Loron leaders in order to continue our involvement with them. With the increasing threat from extremists in the Loron region, it is a challenging time for all the believers. Please pray for their safety and protection from wicked men. Pray that we will be a help and encouragement to them during our visit.</p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px;">We are so thankful, despite some health issues over recent months, for this opportunity to visit the work. During our time in Northern Ireland, I have been working on writing

<p align="left" class="western" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-size: 13pt;"><i><b>Security</b></i></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">
We are currently unable to return to our village in Ivory Coast
because of the growing threat of violent attacks and kidnapping of
foreign citizens by Islamic terrorists. The British and French
embassies have placed our village in their Red Zones, and the Ivorian
authorities have put the region under military control.</span></p>

<br />
I got three hundred and thirty seven results. That's right, 337!<br />
<br />
Over three hundred and thirty books in English explaining what the book of Ephesians, or portions of it, is all about. To be honest, I'm amazed. I had no idea that there were so many books available to chose from.<br />
<br />
Last week we put the finishing touches to the very <i><b>first</b></i> verse-by-verse commentary, in the Loron language, of the book of Ephesians.<br />
<br />
It's been a thrill to see this project come to completion after so many years of study and preparation. We are now waiting for the copies to come back from the printers. Can't wait to get them into the hands of the Loron believers in Ivory Coast.<br />
<br />
The work has already started on the first commentary in Loron of the book of Galatians.<br />
<br />
Yes, I just checked the online store for available commentaries for Galatians. In English there are <i>only</i> 75 commentaries available locally! Still pretty good, wouldn't you say?<br />
<br />
Please pray for missionaries all over the world who are translating God's word, teaching literacy, bringing the Gospel to the lost, and developing Bible teaching materials for hundreds of ethnic groups, for the very first time.<div><br /><span><a name='more'></a></span><div>* <a href="https://www.icmbooks.co.uk" target="_blank">https://www.icmbooks.co.uk</a> </div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199462987829122419.post-65479758258887502022020-06-15T20:39:00.013+01:002020-06-15T20:53:58.515+01:00Facebook links, NTM blog (2014-2020) ...<div>Facebook pages: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/paulbriggsy">Paul</a>, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/marina.briggs.5">Marina</a></div><div>For NTM blog posts, 2014-2020, click <a href="http://blogs.ethnos360.org/paul-briggs">here</a>. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tRFFUwzP630/XufOU9n5rkI/AAAAAAAAOCw/PugK4skc8Tkm_LZ6xMHZsxeD-mxucnFhgCK4BGAsYHg/s580/pandm.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="571" data-original-width="580" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tRFFUwzP630/XufOU9n5rkI/AAAAAAAAOCw/PugK4skc8Tkm_LZ6xMHZsxeD-mxucnFhgCK4BGAsYHg/s320/pandm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199462987829122419.post-35137436285333407002014-04-04T15:15:00.000+01:002014-04-04T15:15:50.096+01:00Scary moments in GuineaLast Tuesday, when we were travelling in Guinea, West Africa, we came to a steel bridge that was completely blocked by a large, overloaded truck that had become stuck between two girders on the bridge.
We used an alternative route. It was a pretty scary experience.

Christ are their Saviour.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana;">The last few weeks we spent in the village in Ivory
Coast during November were pretty hectic, but, praise the Lord for what took
place. Marina was able to spend a week with sixteen literacy teachers from
numerous Loron villages, bringing them up to date with all the new literacy
materials and techniques. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">And then Pastor Matthew worked with a group of seven
French-speaking Loron believers who will be getting more involved in the Loron
Bible translation project. He taught them basic Bible translation principles and
he was a very effective communicator. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Please continue to pray for translation
and literacy among the Loron.</span><br />
